What is happening on Lombok & Gili Islands?  Updated 20/8/2018

Earthquake measuring 6.0 hits Lombok and the Gili Islands today at 10.15am

All non-essential personnel have now been evacuated from the Gil Islands to either Lombok or over to Bali by fastboat. There has been considerable damage to the infrastructure on the Gili Islands, the nearby port of Bangsal Harbour and the nearby villages, as well as to the north of Lombok in the Sembalun area on the northern side of Mount Rinjani Volcano. Currently, Mount Rinjani National Park is closed to visitors while the rangers check for loose rocks etc., to ensure all visitors are safe to go there. When the park is opened again (expected to be in a couple of weeks) we will put a notice here to keep guests updated as to progress. Senggigi (the main tourist area on the west of Lombok) has suffered damage, but nothing as bad as to the very north of the island.  Some resorts are closing for 2 weeks to complete repairs and then will be re-opening for business.  It is best to check with the individual resorts as to their program to re- open. Roads and bridges to the north of Lombok have been damaged and so these will take a little while to repair, though the government is already working to re-open the main road from Senggigi to Senarua / Sembalun. The south of Lombok (Kuta / Sekatong etc) has not suffered any damage at all so there is still great accommodation available in these areas. All of the main tourist attractions are still open. If you are considering a holiday to Lombok, please do come.  Now, more than ever, the local businesses and people need you to visit so they have money to start rebuilding their lives and homes. We do hope to see you here very soon! This page will be updated daily for the next 2 weeks so do check back for the latest information.  Hint:  Don’t believe everything you read on social media or the online news…. there have been so many laughable reports that we all have tears in our eyes! :-)
